About Us

Cottage Grove Cares held its first community meeting November, 2012 at the Village Hall of Cottage Grove. During our first years, Diane Wiedenbeck was a driving force of the coalition, she and her famous brownies didn’t miss a meeting. The coalition was founded with community members from many sectors.

As a Coalition we are examining what the trends are in the Village in regards to youth alcohol consumption, illegal drug use including prescription medications, marijuana and vaping of nicotine and THC. This information aids the coalition in moving forward with prevention and educations efforts.

Our past activities in the community have been heroin town hall meetings, prescription drug forum, NARCAN training, Social Host Ordinance educational information, and prescription drug take-back events. We have participated in Market Street Days, Cottage Grove National Night Out and other community events.

Partnering with Monona Cares Coalition has made a significant difference in reaching all parents of the Monona Grove School District.

 FACT:

Two-thirds of teens who misused pain relievers say that they got them from family and friends, including their home medicine cabinets.
